Megadeth has been widely regarded as one of the biggest names in metal. They were one of the bands on the forefront of thrash metal, part of the “Big Four,” and the creator of the some of the best albums in metal.

After their solid but (with the exception of a few songs) not especially spectacular debut, Killing is my Business…And Business is Good, they came back with what can only be described as a master piece: Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying.

This was the album where Megadeth really stepped it up and showed the world what they could really do. If the term “true metal” can describe any album, this would definitely have to be one of them. The fast, intricate guitar parts fits well with Dave Mustaine’s voice. And the blistering solos bring the music to another level of awesome.

Gar Samuelson’s drumming shines brightly with his quick, flashy fills, and hard-hitting double bass drumming. David Ellefson’s bass gives a dark underlying tone, while simultaneously complimenting the guitar parts. And Mustaine, even though he’s no Rob Halford, sings well, gives the album a hard, gritty feel that only adds to the overall picture.

The album starts off with the song Wake Up Dead, which right off the bat let’s you know what you’re about to get into. The heavy riffs combined with the fast solos adds a certain dimension to the music, creating a thrash feel, while also keeping it low and heavy. It picks up half way through the song, showing off some of Gar’s exceptional double bass work.

The title track Peace Sells, combines every element in metal. It starts off with Ellefsons’s bass, but then moves to some heavy guitar work, fast solos and strong vocals. Towards the end of the song, it also picks up, and this is when all the band members are at their best. Great work on all the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. It ends perfectly with a last growl from Mustaine, before moving on.

This album is essential listening material for any heavy metal fan, and is a standard for any metal band trying to make an album. If you’re this good, you’ll be set with your music career. Overall, one of the best metal albums out there. I would most certainly recomend it for anyone.
